Iditarod 2009
Sign-up Mike
is officially signed up to run the 2009 "Last Great
Race" the Iditarod. Follow his progress as he prepares
for this historical sled dog race.
A couple hundred fans and mushers attended the annual volunteer
picnic and first day for the 2009 mushers sign up. At least
68 mushers signed up to date. With a limit of 100 mushers
able to enter this years race many mushers quickly put their
$4,000 entry fee down to ensure a place in the last great
race.
The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, usually just called the
"Iditarod", is an annual dogsled race in Alaska,
where mushers and teams of dogs cover about 1,151 miles
(1,853 km) in nine to fifteen days. The Iditarod began in
1973 as an event to test the best mushers and teams, evolving
into the highly competitive race it is today.
