MY
2008 Race Team
SOPHIE
LEADER
This girl really came in to her own last season as a 2 year old.
In a driving blizzard with no visibility, on the Yetna River she
led the team 40 miles back to the road. After that amazing performance.
She was promoted to main leader and ran lead the entire Yukon Quest
350 in lead. I’ll always feel confident with this girl in
the front of my team.
TIM
LEADER
This boy really loves Sophie and makes a great compliment to her in
lead. What he lacks in following direction he makes up for with his
hard straight charging attitude. As a 3 year old and 5000 miles of
experience under his belt I’m betting he’s as ready as
any dog to do Iditarod.
LARRY
LEADER
An excellent all around dog, Larry is my buddy who spends the off
season under the coffee table in the living room or hiking up the
mountains. He’s a reliable member of the team and has finished
every race he’s been in.
HEATHER
LEADER
A good trail leader that loves to run in harness. She is a beautiful
dog and really enjoys back rubs (I wondered why she always put her
rear in my face).
JEN
LEADER
With her first season on the team under her belt I expect she’ll
do great this year. She did a fantastic job as a mother last summer
and I expect all 5 of her pups to be as fantastic as she is.
YELLA
SWING DOG, LEADER TRAINEE
He joined the team with Jen and is absolutely crazy to run. I’m
hoping to train him this season not to pull the snow hook every time
the team needs to stop. He’s already taught the yearlings how
fun it is to hammer in their harnesses until something gives and they
get to run.
BRUCE
SWING DOG, LEADER TRAINEE
Big, strong and steady are this dogs traits in the team. I use him
like a speedometer he always seems to trot at exactly 12 miles an
hour, if he starts loping I know we are going too fast. He enjoys
lounging on the carpet in the living room and baying really loud to
piss-off the neighbors. Mission Accomplished
MADIE
SWING DOG, LEADER
Looks a lot like her sister Sophie only not as alpha and friendlier
to most people. An easy keeper and very loyal she enjoys getting hip
rubs and giving sloppy kisses when you least expect them.
PEANUT
TEAM DOG
This little guy has a ton of heart and can have a bit of attitude
also when you get him off the straw and he wants to sleep another
hour or two. That’s all right he can sleep the entire summer
to make up for it.
POLAR
TEAM DOG
The great thing about Polar is he will stand in the exact spot so
that while you pet his head he can pee on your shoe or foot at the
same time. He doesn’t do it to be mean he’s just so happy
to get attention, even though you just petted him 5 minutes ago, a
real lover boy but he doesn’t go in the house, mine or his he
just gets too hot.
SUE
TEAM DOG, LEADER TRAINEE
Sue didn’t race as a yearling although she did great in training
and on some camping trips. I’ve started her in leader training
and expect great things from her this year.
BROWN BEAR
TEAM DOG, LEADER TRAINEE
He ran most of the Klondike 300 as his first race and didn’t
do to bad although he did slow down after 200 miles. With his experience
and another year of training I believe this boy will make it to the
Burled Arch in Nome.
CHAMP
TEAM DOG
He is basically a running machine who doesn’t need to stop.
Tough to keep weight on since he runs around his pole for hours at
a time with just a goofy happy look on his face. He didn’t race
last year since he refused to rest when we camped. A year older and
hopefully somewhat smarter he should make the team this year.
MUNICH
TEAM DOG
Much like her boy Champ she is the energizer bunny of the team. She
has completed many races and has a ton of miles on her without any
injuries; I believe an advantage of being a smaller dog. If she has
a brain, I’d like to know.
BRUNO
TEAM DOG
Excellent temperament he is always excited to hit the trail. I’m
hoping he’ll make it to the starting line of the Iditarod (you
want a slower steadier dog). He’s finished almost all the races
I’ve been in.
KEN
TEAM DOG
New to the team and is the only dog to actually run the Iditarod.
He’s run a few training runs with the puppies this spring and
looks to be a good dog. Super affectionate I really like his happy
attitude.
HILDI
SUPER PUPPY
This will be her first season with the team and my hope is all the
yearlings will do some mid-distance races January 08. This girl is
the smallest of the group but like a small rocket she is extremely
fast.
REMINGTON
SUPER PUPPY
Shy and reserved is how I would describe him until you see him trying
to break his harness to get the sled going. Already obedience trained
I expect this boy will do big things in the future.
BULLET
SUPER PUPPY
If you look on the "About Me"
page you can see little "Bullet" on the carpet his eyes
still closed. Now his eyes are wide open and he wants to see as much
of the trail as he can.
POOH
SUPER PUPPY
This is a sweet girl who if you’re not looking will lick you
right in the mouth (tastes like POOH). She didn’t start off
as swiftly as her brothers and sisters but soon got the hang of the
running in harness frenzy.
ARROW
SUPER PUPPY
She is ready to hit the trail. She did fine with her puppy training
this spring and should blossom in training this fall.
WHITEY
SUPER PUPPY
Insane is the word I have to put to this guy. His Dad is a Golden
Harness winner and this boy will probably follow in the family tradition
if he attacks the trail the way he attacks his food or anything else
he wants.
